It started
with a drawing.
Character Made began around our coffee table.
Our kids were drawing the kinds of creatures only kids seem to imagine - the mismatched ears, strange colors, crooked lines, impossible shapes, and all.
Looking at their drawings, we realized the parts an adult might be tempted to “fix” were actually the parts that made each creature feel alive.
So we started imagining who these characters might be, what stories they might have, and what could happen if we brought them to life exactly as the kids drew them.
That became Character Made.
We don’t redesign the differences. We build the stories around them.
—
the drawing was
only the beginning.

The story is where we learn to look again.
What we make matters. But how we see matters more.
Character Made is built around a simple idea: there is always more to someone than what we notice first. Our stories invite kids to stay curious, ask another question, and look long enough to see what was there all along.
LOOK CLOSER
First impressions tell us something. Curiosity helps us discover what they don’t.
ASK ANOTHER QUESTION
What we see is only one perspective.
Understanding grows when we wonder what else might be true.
LOOK FOR THE WHY
Knowing what happened isn’t the same as knowing why. There is often more beneath the surface.
STAY CURIOUS
We don’t have to understand something right away. Sometimes the most important thing is being willing to keep wondering.
THERE IS ALWAYS MORE TO SEE
A first impression can be true without being the whole truth. Looking again gives us the chance to notice what we missed the first time.
EVERY DIFFERENCE TELLS A STORY
The details that make a character different aren’t something to erase. They’re often where the most interesting part of the story begins.
